“There she goes,” I hear them say
As she turns and walks away.
And I stood still there, frozen.
The wall between us poison,
As I watched her walk away.
“Let her go,” I hear them say.

“You cannot say goodbye.
She will not want to hear.”
Will fear betray the lie?
Is truth held back by fear?
I ought to say goodbye.

The frolics where we used to play–
In folly we were led astray.
When nervous laughter fades away,
And cozy comfort begs to stay!
Words like “Love” should not spread fear–
The simple fact:  I/You are here!

I never said to her goodbye.
I could not say that last goodbye.
