I am the grandson of Helen Wilson, who was saved. As the story goes she met my grandfather aboard the Carpathia. They were married a year later. I cannot verify if my grandfather was a passenger or crew aboard the Carpathia. He was a Ships Captain from Sweden his name was Axel Rosenquist. Jack Heinz

cool storey bro
Dear Jack,
It was wonderful to read your story. Helen Alice Wilson was our Grandmother’s Aunt and she was born in Co.Galway, Ireland. We still live in Co.Galway and had always heard stories of your Grandmother from when we were young.
Kind regards & best wishes,
Anne & Marian Feeney.
Helen Alice was my grandmother’s (Margaret Wilson Beirne) sister. We have been to Galway and met John and Mary Feeney. Are they related to you? They have sons named Damian and Liam.
Hi, I was doing a websearch on my name and this came up. Just wondering if we might somehow be related. My grandfather was Murty Feeney. I believe he was from Spidel. He married Margaret Brennen. My father Patrick was born in Dublin in 1913. Any chance we are related?
Thanks,
Marian Feeney
Are you Helen Anne Matlock?

Dear Jack,
My Granny, Mary Wilson was your mother’s sister. I am Seamus Hynes’s first cousin and my only living sister is Mary Doherty (Crowe). I have a family and we live in County Leitrim, Ireland. Would love to hear from you.

Dear Jack,
My great grandmother (Mary) was your mother’s sister. My Mother is still living and was excited to read about Helen on the internet. She is Ellen also, and she is a first cousin of Seamus Hynes. We would love to hear from you.

Just met with patti sue rolak and Tom Beirne who are 2nd cousins of ours and you too Jack Heinz…Had a lovely day piecing together our family history!
Nell Moran and Breege Egan….more to follow….
Hello family! I am grinning like a fool for finding this site and reading Jack’s article and your comments. My late Dad, John (Jack) Wilson, was the youngest of seven surviving children of Peter and Helen Wilson. Peter was one of Helen Alice Wilson’s brothers.
I was contacted out of the blue a bit over a week ago by Patti-Sue, who began by asking if I had a relative who survived the sinking of the Titanic. After about 1.5-hours of non-stop “gift of gab,” we took a break. I plan to meet her next week on my way back to New Jersey.
In the meantime, my brother and cousins and I have been comparing notes, reviewing family members’ letters and other documents that are many decades old, and passing around family photos that we have scanned or made into .jpg files from very old negatives.
My Dad and I had many conversations about our family. I heard about Feeneys and Morans and other names . . . and there you are. As my dear Dad would say, “This is great stuff!”
More soon.

Very neat to read all these comments, my name is Mike Hurley and Mary Wilson was my great-grandmother and sister to Ellen Wilson. I’ve been able to communicate with some folks on this thread and my sister Ann has as well. My grandmother was Ellen McGann, and she was Mary’s daughter who moved to Massachusetts and married Frank Hurley and had two children, my Dad William Hurley and his brother Donald, both of whom are now passed. I visited Spiddal in 1999 and met Seamus Hynes, Mick Doherty, Kathleen Feeney, Mary Crowe and and many of her children, and others I’m sure I’ve forgotten. I hope some relatives will see this and reach out, as I frequently check Ancestry as well searching for long lost family. Thanks everyone!
